Lake Phoenix offers one of the clearest and warmest lakes in the mid-Atlantic region for scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming. The property features primitive camping, and RV Parking for up to 40' motorhomes with 50A power. All patrons have access to private indoor bathrooms that feature a full warm shower and changing facilities. The on-site general store features scuba diving necessities such as air-fills on demand, and camping supplies, i.e. firewood, charcoal and more. Lake-side shelters offer a roof to get out of the sun, and use of a grill at the end of the day. The fun doesn't have to end just because the sun has gone down! Lake Phoenix is extending diving by offering Night Diving almost every evening of the diving season.
Lake Phoenix offers several advantages for divers in training not present at other local sites accessible to divers in training - principally water clarity and warmth! The water warms up quickly at Lake Phoenix and stays warmer longer into the season. Being able to clearly see your dive buddy and instructor are important aspects of diver safety; it provides you an opportunity to see other students working on skills. The fixed training platforms were set at around 25 feet which generally keeps you above the cooler water beneath the thermocline for the vast majority of your open water checkout dives. More advanced divers will be intrigued by the deep water platforms and a spooky attraction known as the "Dead Zone". Be sure to ask your Advanced Open Water instructor to take you there for a visit!
Certified Divers headed to Lake Phoenix for fun or skills practice should stop by the Admissions Desk and obtain a laminated map of the lake. There is a hidden underwater Geo Cache only reachable with SCUBA equipment, if you can find it. You'll have to plan your dives carefully to reach the Geo Cache and the mystery item, or alternately you could simply cheat and rent a diver propulsion vehicle from Blue Octopus Scuba.
Our Instructors agree, Lake Phoenix is the preferred choice in local diving; especially for the vast majority of training classes offered by Blue Octopus Scuba.
Note: Boat Diver, Deep Diver, and Drift Diver are not offered by Blue Octopus Scuba at Lake Phoenix. Students enrolled in Cavern Diver, Decompression Procedures, Tec 40, Tec 45, Tec 50, and Tec 65 can begin training at Lake Phoenix, however certification requires other environmental circumstances and diver experiences not present at Lake Phoenix.
Note: Some features of Lake Phoenix are in addition to the admission price.
